Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Vatican (to the Batman theme song).

We got to sleep in today since our tour didn't start until 1:30 pm. The Italian metro is the same as London and Paris, except there seems to be much more people on them. I believe we're here during their high season as there is just a lot more people pretty much everywhere.

We got to the tour area and found out that there would only be 4 people in our tour. Hurray for small tour groups. The other couple ended up being from California. Even though it was a small group we still used the headsets, it's probably much easier on the guide to not force him to turn around to talk.

The tour started in the Vatican museums. It was explained that every room needs to have a purpose, and not just showcase art for arts sake. Our guide showed us through most of the rooms pointing out stories related to various pieces of architecture or sculptures.

One of my favorite rooms was a long hallway with nothing but old maps of Italy painted on the walls. Each was a small part of Italy painted to scale, and within them they had little interesting bits. The ceiling was absolutely ridiculous with the amount of paintings on it.

Following that we got to enter the sistine chapel. You can't take photos and there are guards that try to keep everyone silent, but people were still chatting away anyway. I've certainly seen pictures of it before, but it was quite a different experience seeing it in person. Doubly so because the guide did a good job explaining each of the sections, so we knew what we were looking at.

Lastly we walked through St. Peters basilica. This was even bigger than St. Paul's Cathedral in London and every inch was decorated. Unlike St. Paul's we were able to take pictures inside. I tried to decide whether I liked one more than the other and ended up saying i like them both for different reasons.

Not many days left before we come home. Tomorrow is a free day, we will probably wander around the city a bit more and get lost :)
