We made it to Rome!

The worst part of getting here was waking up at 4:45 am to catch a cab to the airport. Otherwise we had a quick flight to Vienna with an hour layover, and then another short flight to Rome. Ah, I nearly forgot... at the airport in France we got to board the plane by taking a bus to the tarmac and then walking up one of those airport stairs cars. Kind of felt like the president boarding.

After we checked into our hotel we found a nearby supermarket to get something quick to eat. We've been in 2 so far, and they are absolutely crazy. It's basically a single long hallway that snakes through the building.  We've also learned that the Italians working at the supermarket's don't like to make change. At one the total was 5.04 (5,04 here) and I handed the girl a 10. She said something like "4 cents?" And when I couldn't come up with the exact coins she slammed down the change on the counter :D. This same exchange happened at the second supermarket as well.

Since our train was cancelled from Paris taking a plane meant that we had much more time this first day. We decided to go out for a long walk. All of the streets are lined with 4 or 5 story building's which makes each new street a surprise. At one point we crossed a street only to quickly notice that the Colosseum was a few blocks away. I say quickly because if you linger in the street you will probably get taken out by a motorcycle (Paris and Rome have a lot of scooters and motorcycles).

We walked over to Altar of the Fatherland (no idea what it's called in Italian) and walked nearly to the top. It's a rather huge monument that has a museum inside of it. Then we walked over to the Trevi fountain. Again, we couldn't see it from a distance because of the buildings... but as you walk closer you begin to hear the rush of water and then the crowds get much bigger. We got to the very front in the center, and it's pretty awesome to see up close. Also, we complain about cops... but throughout Europe we've seen a lot of military walking around with assault rifles. Here they are near monuments but also driving in the street and walking around.

I'm sending this the next morning because we came back to the hotel and pretty much passed out until now. We're going to the Vatican today, so I will let you all know how that goes a bit later.
