Well we made it! The flight wasn't terrible... We nearly got upgraded to first class after a woman started crying about her families seating arrangement (or lack thereof), but another couple ended up snagging those seats. I briefly flirted with the idea of sleeping, however even after taking a Tylenol PM I can couldn't make myself go to sleep. Instead I ended up watching Dunkirk which gave me the opportunity to pretend I was flying in a spitfire in WW2 instead of the large commercial jet I found myself in.

We landed and got to exit the plane on the tarmac just like Nixon did... That is if Nixon was forced to carefully make his way down precariously slippery stairs in the rain... Ok, so it was only slightly like the iconic Nixon photograph...

The bus ride to Rekyavik was easy, and we were surprised to find out how close our accommodations are to the main bus stop. Woohoo for coincidental planning! Unfortunately this is when we realized that we wouldn't be able to check in until 3 pm(and by that point it was about 8am). This was sort of expected... But then actually realizing that you have absolutely nothing to do for the next 7 hours, in a foreign city, it's windy, it's cold and it's raining... Oh and you and your wife collectively got about 3 hours of sleep on the flight over... Well it became a little more of a concern.

We rented a locker at a nearby carpark to store our luggage, and then decided to just wander around to try to kill some time. We walked around downtown, only to find that we were the only ones up and about. We hoofed it over to Hallgrímskirkja (yes, I copied and pasted that. Oh it's a church btw) just in time for them to open their doors at 9:00am. We briefly popped our heads in, just long enough to give us a short break from the cold/wind/rain, and then it was back to the streets again.

By this point it's around 9:30am and we were getting pretty cold. We decided to head back towards our air bnb and go to a museum exhibit called "The Settlement Expedition" that was all set to open at 10. The building had a bit of an isolated waiting area with local maps and fliers for other attractions, so Amanda instantly fell asleep here while I perused slowly and attempted to read them all to kill some time.

The actual exhibit kept us busy for a bit. Most of that was both of us trying our very hardest to read each placard. The problem was that the whole exhibit is pretty dark... Almost like a warm blanket constantly calling to us to take a brief nap. We fought it for a while, but eventually Amanda had to sit down and proceed to nod in and out of consciousness.

By this point it's almost 12, and while no one has bothered us about lingering, it's about time we move on. We found a small coffee shop up the block and decided to give it a try. A $30 panini later and I feel justified in my decision to not eat out while in Iceland (though it was pretty good... Just not $30 good). We both had 2 lattes and managed to kill another 2 hours sitting at a window watching as people walked by.

At 2 I started to get excited because it's getting close to check-in time. We head a few blocks over to the budget grocery store to check things out and get a few things. In the past I have had bad luck in foreign supermarkets as there seems to always be someone there displeased with how our transaction proceeds... today was no exception. No big story there, just an annoyed look from a checkout person as I stumbled my way through that transaction.

We are currently in our room in the basement of a small house. We both have had a pretty good nap and are feeling quite a bit better. It's 10:30pm and still pretty light outside. Not much else to report. Tomorrow we go on a 8 hour tour of the Golden circle by bus, so expect more rainy pictures shortly.
